WWOOFing at Laya Point

WWOOFing is a way of volunteering on an organic project in exchange for experience, knowledge, room and board. At Laya Point, we work alongside our woofers to achieve whatever needs to be done on the project that week.

WWOOFer requirements for Laya Point are:

  • Minimum stay 1 week
  • Between 6 – 8 hours work per day, 5 days per week
  • A willingness to undertake whatever tasks are at hand with positivity and enthusiasm
  • An understanding of Permaculture ethics and principles would be preferable
  • Registered with WWOOF UK

We tend to work alongside our WWOOFers, doing whatever needs to be done that day. We try to create a balance in our daily work, but sometimes this isn’t possible and a job simply needs to be done until it is finished.

There may be times when we ask WWOOFers to work alone on a task.  We expect volunteers to be self-motivated and responsible.

Our days are often long and we work pretty hard.  We also have to contend with all types of weather, so there may be days or tasks that involve getting wet and dirty, hot and dirty or just plain dirty.  If the thought of working hard and getting dirty doesn’t put a smile on your face, you may want to re-consider applying.

That said, we strive to find a balance between work and play and invite our volunteers to join us in a number of fun activities that regularly take place, be it music nights, yoga, evenings out or exploring a new area with the dog.  You will also be given plenty of time to explore this beautiful part of the world on your own.

As a Laya Point WWOOFer, you will be invited into our home and as such into our (small) family.

We eat a vegetarian diet.  We ask our volunteers to join us in a rota to cook meals.  This allows everyone to share their culinary knowledge and skills and leads to some scrumptious meals!  We try to eat from our garden wherever possible and as such encourage volunteers to be enterprising with the ingredients available.

If you have specific dietary requirements, you may  need to bring your own food to supplement.

We have two spare rooms in the house, so you will be sharing our home.  As such we ask that you help us keep the place clean and tidy.

Getting to Laya Point:

See Getting Here.

We are a small project so can only accommodate one or two volunteers at a time and we have LOTS of applications, so please understand if we are unable to host you.

Still keen?  Great!  Please contact us to apply.

We look forward to meeting you!

Hello I am going to be living nearish by and wouldn’t mind helping out and volunteering. I do work full time. I wouldn’t stay. Let me know if I can help out in a way that would suit you.

      Hi Jane

Where do you live? We have lots of volunteers lined up for the coming months, but we can always do with more help. The best thing would be to give Rosie a call on 01229 716154.
